On February 6th at 4:17 am terrible earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale hit the southeast part of Turkey, toppling high raise buildings and leaving a trail of disaster in Gaziantep. About 4 hours later a second shockwaves with a magnitude of 7.5 hit Kahramanmaras province.
The earthquake also hit northern Syria sending off tremors as far as Egypt, Lebanon, and Northern Cyprus. In Turkey mostly struck Gaziantep, Hatay and the close proximity. The S waves were also felt in other Turkish cities, including the capital city of Ankara, causing extensive property damage, with many buildings collapsing and roads being blocked.
